Four posters discussing the use of adaptive optics (AO) transscleral optical imaging (TOI) for retina structure visualization will be presented at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) 2022 Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado on May 1 to 4.

The first poster demonstrates good safety and high repeatability of TOI in 49 healthy eyes, as well as the relationship between features of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells, involved in the onset and progression of retinal diseases, and human subject characteristics.

The second poster reports the first clinical experience in consecutively imaging RPE and photoreceptor cells with TOI device. For 154 out of the 206 eyes examined (75%), image acquisition was possible in all the five zones selected around and within the fovea.

The third poster shows the results of TOI as compared to standard imaging (e.g. OCT) in 25 patients affected with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Several patterns are observable on the TOI images including drusenoid deformation of the RPE cell layer also noticeable on OCT.

Finally the fourth poster addresses another retinal diseases. TOI images were successfully acquired in 21 eyes of patients with central serous chorioretinopathy (CRSC), showing various qualitative features, such as altered RPE mosaic subsequent to resolved CRSC.
